Elio Ticca is a contemporary artist working with painting, sculpture and installation. His work aims to investigate how the representation of affect can be conceptually and culturally deconstructed, as well as narrated in new plastic and visual forms. His research, developed especially through representational painting, strongly blends speculative realism and post-surrealism, while playing with the deconstruction and reconstruction of gender role apparatuses, queerness and heritage, history and dystopianism, exoticism and esotericism. Invested with an inherent affective agency, his art eventually becomes an invitation to explore forgotten and new horizons, and a direct portal into the oneiric and the unconscious.

MALACHITE PSYGREEN

Made in grisaille, with malachite green and white as main colours, as well as complementary colours, the group of works merges classical imagery with psychedelic patterns. Either referencing the marble-like decorative paintings of ancient and Renaissance art, or the extravaganza of grotesque painting, the series aims also to explore the possibilities of making classical art encounter abstract painting, in order to create a whymsical, allucinatory atmosphere.
